Pregnancy Acupuncture

Nurturing pregnancy acupuncture relaxes mother and baby, and provides precious time to connect. Treatment throughout the trimesters focuses on any issues that arise and preparation for birth.

Pregnancy acupuncture is a safe treatment to use throughout your maternity journey. Patients often start their acupuncture treatment whilst trying to conceive and then continue throughout the trimesters. Acupuncture during pregnancy can focus on any difficult emotions or physical symptoms that arise. Acupuncture can help you to prepare for labour and address issues such as breech presentation with the use of moxibustion. Sunny is also trained in pregnancy massage, and this may be suitable in addition to acupuncture for pain – and if requested.

Postnatally, treatment might addresses pain, often associated with breast feeding and lifting a growing a baby, or healing after a difficult labour. It can also support you emotionally, providing much needed rebalancing and down time post birth.

Safety is of the utmost importance during pregnancy treatment which is why Sunny is specifically trained to work with pregnant clients. This ensures correct assessment of suitability for pregnancy treatment, correct (and comfortable) positioning and appropriate aftercare for optimum results.

Benefits of prenatal and postnatal treatments: Physical changes throughout pregnancy and postnatal, aches and pains, nausea, preparation for birth, emotional support through relaxation, beneficial for baby too.

What to expect: Pregnancy acupuncture is usually performed either laying flat on your back before the third trimesters (if it’s comfortable for you), seated upright in the third trimester, or lying on your side in any trimester.

After the birth, if comfortable you can return to lying on your tummy.

Babies are welcome to attend if childcare is difficult. In this case we might choose acupressure and massage so you can attend to your baby and feed whilst having a treatment. A bespoke aromatherapy blend can be prepared for each treatment, with oils selected for specific conditions and for each individual. A lower dilution of oils is used during pregnancy and postnatally.

Treatment length: Pregnancy acupuncture treatments last 1 hour. 60 minute treatments are usually sufficient for a more focused treatment on a particular problem area. If you would like a full body massage, please contact Sunny to discuss booking a longer treatment so equal and thorough attention can be given to all areas of the body.

The Consultation: Your initial treatment includes a consultation looking into medical history and aspects of lifestyle which may be influencing your current condition. This not only ensures that the treatment is suitable for you but that positive effects from the treatment can be maintained. The consultation takes about half an hour, which means your first acupuncture session is a little shorter. Subsequent treatments involve a very short 5-15 minute consultation and the remainder a longer acupuncture session.
